Web Design

If your website is ever going to succeed online and bring you more traffic that eventually turns into paying customers, you’ll have to pay close attention to web design and how it affects the viewer’s overall experience. Because poor web design will convince more readers to turn tail and run than anything else online.

People want an easy to read, easy to view website that isn’t too difficult or complicated to navigate. If you can provide this experience to your readers then you’ll do just fine with web design. On the other hand, if you screw this up, you will ultimately waste your time and lose all of the precious traffic that you worked so hard to attain.

Let’s take a look at some of the most important things that you need to do to create an awesome web design experience for your readers.

Web Design Do’s

  • Create a solid page structure – creating a solid page structure is exactly what your reader wants. They do not want to come to your webpage and find things all over the place with no rhyme or reason in mind. A structured webpage will make it easy to read the content, view the videos and look at your infographics. And more importantly than anything else, it will be easy for your readers to enjoy your content and this will keep them coming back for more.
  • Focus your webpages on what is important – in this example, let’s say you are building a website for your business because you’re looking for a simple way to sell your services online. Well you need to focus your website and all of your webpages on your services. This will help you to create a rapid fan base of people interested in what you have to offer. Make sure the entire website is strictly focused on your business and nothing more. Give away freebies. Get people to join your mailing list. Create great content. Do whatever it takes to build your fan base because they are the people that are eventually going to become your paying customers.
  • Choose the correct color scheme – this might seem difficult to accomplish, but it’s definitely going to help you over the long run. You should choose the color scheme of your website based on the emotions of your readers. As an example, if you are creating a meditation website, you should focus on very soft and mild colors. You do not want a website filled with bright, loud colors that will take away from the peace and serenity of your readers. A Branding Agency is sometimes employed to help determine these things. You can read more about how your customers experience your company.
  • Make it simple for readers to scan your pages – creating huge lumps of text without any spaces is a big mistake as far as web design is concerned. Another huge mistake is leaving out header tags. You should have many headings posted throughout your content, and this is especially true if the content that you share is relatively long. Header tags allow readers to easily scan the content to find out if it is something that they are interested in. More people will scan your content then those that will actually read it from start to finish, so make it easy for them to scan your pages by leaving plenty of white space, headings and bullet points for readers to peruse.

Now that we’ve gotten some of the most important web design do’s out of the way, we also thought it might be beneficial to share some of the things that you should never do as far as web design is concerned. So we will attack that area next for those who are interested in it.

Web Design Don’ts

  • Don’t write huge 1000 words or more paragraphs – we touched upon this already but it definitely bears repeating. Some people like to vomit thousands of words on a page without ever creating any spaces or header tags. This is a huge mistake. Nobody wants to read this way. It is going to turn your readers off and they are going to walk away and never come back to your website again. So please avoid vomiting thousands of words in one paragraph onto the page. This is a huge mistake.
  • Don’t overdo it with too many colors on your website – this is a huge distraction and it ultimately looks stupid. Having 20 or more colors on your website will clash and to put it bluntly, it’s going to turn people away from your site. Nobody wants to see the full color spectrum on a website because it’s foolish and it’s not very appealing.
  • Don’t place advertisements all over your website – there’s absolutely nothing wrong with advertising. It’s the reason your website exists. But there is a time and place for advertising and cramming ads down your readers’ throats is not the way to do it. Place strategic calls to action throughout your website but do not overdo it because it will turn people off.

Please implement these web design strategies to help improve your reader experience.
